ASYCUDA stands for Automated SYstem for CUstoms DAta
The ASYCUDA programme is directed at reforming the customs clearance process. It aims at speeding up customs clearance through the introduction of
computerization and simplification of procedures and thus minimizing administrative costs to the business community and the economies of countries. It
currently covers most foreign trade procedures, including manifests, customs declarations,
accounting procedures, warehousing and other suspense
procedures.
ASYCUDA was created in 1981 by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development
(UNCTAD) and was first implemented in Dominica in
1991(version 2.1). It was then upgraded to version 2.7 in 1994 and to the ASYCUDAWorld version in
2009. The current version is currently utilised at all Sea
and Air Ports on the island
